Fear is Temporary.  Regret is Forever

“Fear Is Temporary. Regret Is Forever.”

Donald Miller

Some quotes hit you so hard they stop you in your tracks.

This quote did it for me — and for good reason.

We live in a world where fear has become an acceptable excuse to stay the same.

Afraid to quit drinking? Keep pouring the wine.
Afraid of what people will think? Stay in the same routine.
Afraid you’ll fail? Keep pouring the wine.

Fear feels safe.
But safety can keep you stuck.

Regret Drinking?

Regret shows up when you realise you’ve lost your spark.

When your mornings feel flat.
When you’re going through the motions but never quite catching up with yourself.
When another year slips by and nothing has really changed.

That’s the regret of staying in the same vicious drinking cycle - knowing deep down that it’s stealing more than it gives.

You’ll Never Regret Being Alcohol-Free

On the other side? You don’t hear women saying:

“I regret having more energy.”
“I regret waking up clear-headed.”
“I regret being fully present with my family.”

Sobriety gives back what alcohol steals: energy, vitality, peace of mind.

Fear Is Temporary — Use the Pause

Fear isn’t permanent.

Science shows an emotion only lasts around 90 seconds in the body unless we keep feeding it with thoughts.

That’s why I teach the 90 Second Power Pause.

Instead of reacting to fear or cravings, you give yourself space to breathe, ride the wave, and let it pass.

Fear is temporary. Who you choose to become isn't.

Staying Stuck Is a Choice. So Is Getting Free.

This was a hard lesson for me to learn — but also the most freeing.

For years I told myself:

“I’ve tried everything.”
“I just need more willpower.”
“This is just who I am.”

But underneath it all, I was still choosing to stay stuck.

Choosing comfort over feeling alive.

Choosing fear over freedom.

Breaking Through Fear

Here’s the exciting part: breaking through fear isn’t as dramatic as you think.

It’s like lighting a match — a spark of effort that lights up everything around you.

It’s like finding the key and unlocking a new room in your life — you don’t know what’s inside until you turn the key.

It’s like pulling off a plaster — sharp at the start, but over in seconds and you wonder why you hesitated.

That’s what freedom feels like.

And it’s waiting for you on the other side of fear.

Your Next Step

Fear will come and go. Regret lingers.

So the real question is: which one do you want shaping your next chapter?
