Woman looking worried about her drinking and considering sobriety

Sobriety Truth Bombs Pt 3 - The Big One

August 30, 20252 min read

If you’ve made it this far through this 3 part series—you already know this isn’t just about wine.

It’s about how long you’ve been holding yourself back,
telling yourself the same stories,
trying to look like you’re coping
when actually—you’re exhausted by your own inner battle.

This final truth bomb?

It’s probably going to be the one you're most resistant to.

But it might be the one that changes everything for you - like it did for me.

Because it'll force you to face what no one else can do for you.

Staying Stuck Is a Choice. So Is Getting Free.

And the day I admitted that? Everything shifted.

Here’s what I used to tell myself:

“I’ve tried everything.”
“I just need more time.”
“I’ll get there eventually.”
“This is just who I am.”

But underneath it all?

I was still choosing to stay stuck.
Choosing to keep drinking—even when it made me miserable.
Choosing comfort over clarity.
Fear over freedom.

That part was hard to admit.
Because if staying stuck was a choice… so was getting free.

And if that was true—then the only person who could change things… was me.

Research into behaviour change shows that the most powerful shift isn’t in information or intention—it’s in ownership. Midlife women who decide they’re done, even before they know how, are more likely to succeed than those still trying to “figure it out.” (NHS Guidelines)

It didn’t happen in a dramatic rock-bottom moment.

It happened in a shed, with a bunch of pet lambs yelling to be fed!
I had a hangover from hell - again.

I shouted out loud “I can’t do this anymore!

That was the beginning of my journey.

No More Circling

Here’s what I want you to know:

You’re not waiting for the right time.
You’re not lacking willpower.
You’re not some mystery to be solved.

You’re just one decision away from a completely different life.

That doesn’t mean it’ll be easy.

But it
will be real. Clear. Honest.

And that’s what makes it sustainable.

SELF-COACHING PROMPT

"If I admitted I'm choosing this, what would I choose instead?"

These truth bombs aren’t here to shame you—they’re here to wake you up.

And if they hit a nerve?
Good. That means you’re ready for change.

Which one landed for you the hardest?
